GAMEPLAY SYSTEMS PROGRAMMER

Remote / Work-From-Home Position

Deep Field Games is looking for a programmer with proven Unreal Engine experience to join our growing Dunedin-based team full-time . You’ll be taking on a core gameplay programmer role in Deep Field’s first major title (Abiotic Factor)  It’s a project with a well-established design, look, and feel that you’ll help extend even further.

This project has a well-established design, look and feel that you’ll extend even further – you’ll help drive development, build features, and refine existing systems, as well as contribute to design on this and upcoming titles. 

Working under the Design Director, you will also need to be good at managing your own output, meeting deadlines, and taking feedback.


Responsibilities
  • Implementing new game features
  • Writing maintainable code in blueprint and C++
  • Improvement and completion of existing systems

Requirements
  • Proven proficiency and experience in Unreal Engine, Blueprints and C++
  • Extensive knowledge of Unreal Engine (4 / 5)
  • Multiplayer development experience
  • Ability to meet deadlines and work within pipelines
  • Strong work ethic and collaborative attitude
  • Excellent communication

Advantages
  • Experience with AI in Unreal Engine
  • Experience with multiplayer involving sub-levels and world partitioning
  • Experience specifically with the latest versions of Unreal Engine 5

GAME TESTER / QA INTERN
Part Time & Remote / Work-From-Home Position

We are looking for a part-time video game tester to help with development of an unannounced title. You will play the game, noting any bugs or issues, as well as testing specific functionality and confirming fixes to existing issues.

Deep Field sees Quality Assurance as a core production role. You will be working under the QA Director within our testing pipeline as a core member of a team that values diversity of all kinds. The role will provide practical experience of video game development in a professional studio, and involve you directly in a range of production processes and disciplines.

To ensure success as a tester, you should have familiarity with the fundamentals of video game design, a passion for gaming, and a good eye for detail. A talent for finding exploits and ‘breaking’ games will be useful, while highly skilled applicants will understand the psychology of gamers and be able to note any details that would interfere with players’ experience of the product.

Responsibilities
  • Playing with and testing new and existing game systems
  • Clearly communicate issues and bugs via the QA reporting system
  • Monitoring, testing, and confirming fixes
  • Work with the QA director to refine processes and pipelines
  • Noting areas of enjoyment and difficulty

Requirements
  • Experience with PC games.
  • Good understanding of game dynamics, sandbox explorations, side quests, and hidden levels.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Good communication skills.
  • Ability to maintain focus for long periods of time.
  • Patience and persistence, and resilience to fatigue brought on by repetition.
  • Passion for games, from inside and out.

  • Competitive contract: $30/hr for 10hrs/week
